Sample Itinerary for Paris, Provence, and the Riviera

Day 1 Transatlantic flight to Paris, France.

Day 2  On arrival in Paris greeted by your guide. Transfer to your hotel with a guided city tour. Dinner this evening will be on the rue Mouffetard.

Day 3 After breakfast, take the metro to the Musee d’Orsay. This renovated train station on the banks of the Seine contains painting from the pre-impressionist, impressionist and post impressionist painters, including Manet, Renoir, Cezanne, Van Gogh and Lautrec. Time permitting enjoy a walk to the Isle St. Louis and the Ile de la Cite for a visit of Notre Dame Cathedral. In the afternoon free time and visit of smaller museums, ie L’orangerie, Rodin. Dinner this evening in the Saint Germain area before a Bateaux Mouches ride on the Seine River.

Day 4 After breakfast you will have a guided tour of the Louvre Museum with its Venus de Milo, Winged Victory and Da Vinci’s Mona Lis». Exit through I.M. Pei’s glass pyramid and walk along the Tuileries Gardens. Follow Napoleon’s “Voie Triomphale”, from the Place de la Concorde, up the Champs Elysees, to the Arc de Triomphe for a view from the top. In the afternoon you will visit the Eiffel Tower, climb, or take the elevator. Enjoy dinner in Paris this evening.

Day 5 This morning take a short train ride to the Sun King, Louis XIV, Chateau de Versailles. Enjoy a tour of this splendid structure, including the Hall of Mirrors, as well as a walk around the gardens to see the big fountains (operating only on Sundays), and the Grand and Petit Trianon. Return to Paris for the afternoon, visit Montmartre before dinner.

Day 6 Depart in the morning, by T.G.V. (world’s fastest train) for the papal city of Avignon. You will be transferred to your hotel. Enjoy exploring the walled town with a visit to the Papal Palace and Pont D’Avignon, with a late afternoon Rhone river boat ride. Enjoy dinner this evening in Avignon.

Day 7 Day in Provence includes the Pont du Gard, Arles and the medieval cliff villages of Les Baux de Provence. Return to Avignon for the evening and dinner.

Day 8  After breakfast a morning walking “Van Gogh” tour of Saint Remy. Continue on to the Arles area for an afternoon of bullfight tradition. Evening and dinner in Pont de Crau.

Day 9  Today enjoy the Mediterranean. Morning departure for Cassis. Board your boat for a visit of the famous Calanques of Cassis. Afternoon departure for Antibes on the Riviera.

Day 10  This morning visit The Chateau Grimaldi, then to St. Paul de Vence. En route stop for a short visit of the Musee Renoir in Cagnes-sur-Mer, The artist’s studio has been redone and contains some of his works. Next you will visit the the Chagall painted Chapelle de la Rosaire. On your arrival in Nice enjoy dinner and then consider a walk along the Promenade des Anglais.

Day 11 After breakfast enjoy the scenic train ride to Monaco. On return, explore Old Nice with a walking tour. Then you may consider visiting the Raoul Dufy, Marc Chagall or Matisse Museums. Enjoy dinner this evening in Nice.

Day 12  Transatlantic flight home.
